He does not lick at all, but he gets very snuggly and wags his tail, but he doesn't lick. I'm not complaining, because licking can be a very annoying habit, but I'm wondering if he is showing his affection in another way, or if he's just nuts.

pets are like humans, they tend to have personalities that is hard to explain. i used to have a dog who's very affectionate and love to eat white bread, and a cat who loves to sleep with the dog. i guess there is no general rule in how they show their love. you just need to appreciate them for who they are.

Yes. It definitely is a sign of affection ;)

I mean... you wouldn't suddenly go up to a random stranger and hug him/her would you? LOL

I don't think your dog is nuts at all. In fact, I think he/she's very sweet! She/he is showing trust and carelessness because she/he feels comfy around you! :) - Like most cats and lovers do, for example. ;)

I think licking is usually more for puppies, when the dogs get older they seem to want to lay close or wave their tails, but not really lick :P There's no general rules whatsoever. Not all dogs are the same. :P They may look similar, but I don't think they have the exact same minds and ways of showing their love! :D (Aren't you glad it's that way! Hehe.)

Most if not all people are different - we think differently, behave differently and accept/reject different things. We have our own ways of showing our love, happiness and warmth. Some express it through creative writing, others through art. Dogs are very alike, like most other animals. :P They're not all clones! (Thank god! Hehe.)

Yes, it is a substitute sign of love and the dog is showing that she/he appreciates you a lot! Good job. Great owners/ friends and or relatives will get those signs of love from their pets / friends / relatives sooner or later ;)

P.S If indeed your doggy is insane, you're very lucky that it hasn't bitten you instead! :P I would not worry, if I were you. ;) Have fun! n_n

Yes this is a very popular sign of affection for an animal, this attribute is mainly shown by cats but some dogs get confused...and rather wouldnt you have him rub you than lick you...slobber ewwww ;)

Neither of my canines are vast lickers. at circumstances sure i recognize they lick because of the fact of food residue on my palms, yet that isn't commonly. while they do lick, that's merely an illustration of love. If it replaced into the style they have been after, they might lick longer, no longer in basic terms the few little 'kisses' they supply.

Your dog apparently thinks it is a cat, since cats like to rub against you. Cats don't lick you.

your dog is also putting his scent on you thereby "claiming" you as their own.
So yes, this is a sign of affection and love AND inclusion in their territory. :)
