That's funny, thanks. Subliminally people must have known they were fools to buy this expensive water, so they bought more!

Evian is a mineral water from several sources near Évian-les-Bains, a few kilometers to the east of Thonon-les-Bains along the southern (French) shore of Lake Geneva. In the larger English-speaking markets it is sold as a premium brand.

The company also operates Evian Affinity, a line of all natural skin-care products from Evian. As of 2004, 23 new organic products were included in the organic line, including toners, moisturizers, and lotions. The products are divided into four categories: Original, Oxygenating, Smoothing and Lifting, and Body Care. Evian also own spas in France (Evian Spas).

Evian spelled backwards is 'naive'. This makes for a common joke about the expensive bottled water by those who do not buy bottled water. The implication is that the customers are wasting money on a marketing gimmick with the proof right in front of them. This is most definately an urban legend - the name comes from the location of the source of the water as described above.(See www.snopes.com to confirm this)

Also note that the accent has been removed from the É in Évian - the bottle reads "Evian".

Not buying bottled water? Go to the heart of Scotland, drink tap water there and you will buy bottled water back South. Up there the water is not, as in some parts of England, recycled.

evian is terrible water. tastes like it come from a tap in center city Paris. don't ever buy it! so expensive...at my home I source water from the earth in the form of a well...as this is not available to most people, I suggest artisan "spring" water if you can find it. "Springtime" is the best and available in the south at a very affordable price...

Lol. No I did not realise it, but saw it immediately! Probably we are! It is after all one of the most expensive! Stick to boiled and cooled tapwater. Much cheaper and just as good for you!

It spells naive, and you're right that's probably why people buy it. I've never noticed that before, thank you for bringing it to my attention.

naive, which would be a french word if you added an accent. spring water contains important nutrients that most tap water lacks. avoid it at your own risk.
