The 64 bit operating system was written specifically to work with the 64 bit processor. It says how large of data packets they handle. If one is a different size then the other, a conversion has to take place.

well they both go together the major advantage to 64 bit architecture is processor memory

added: 32 = about 4 gigs of running memory
64 = 14 gigs on a typical processor
