u may have seen five or more diffferent coloured dots at bottom of newspaper

Those are Registration marks.

They are used to align the Yellow ,Cyan Magenta and Black plates while the 4 color press is at full speed. The 5th is the reference.....

They use a strobe lamp and open up a window to see the color pass by, then they adjust the plate forward/backward with a registration mark. Every time they change speeds, the registration must be done again.....that's why most presses will run full speed and that's it.......

I don't know why they are there but they always remind me of the shelvages on material print that you use as swatches to match other colors that with go with your patterns.

This is for resource. It tells them what colors they used, most of the time the primary colors and black, to blend into their pictures. I really hope this helps!
