My son has cancer still left on the dome of the liver and is slated for surgery soon to remove it. So, he had a CT done. The CT showed a new suspicous spot down on the lower right lobe. The CT was not clear enough to identify what this spot could be, so his surgeon ordered an MRI. The MRI came back pretty clear exactly what was in the liver. They can see the spot of active disease on the dome of the liver is on the surface (not in the liver) which is great news. They could also determine that the new spot was not cancer but a benign fluid filled cyst. And, while they were at it . . the MRI clearly showed a partial blood clot formed in the liver . . so, now my son is on a blood thinner for the blood clot. In other words an MRI can clarify better what is going on inside the liver. And, if it is used with the CT it can provide valuable details.

That's just a personal perspective, I'm sure others can give the technical account.

Good luck!

An MRI scan shows up anything that a doctor is worried about and wants to take a closer look at.
I got diagnosed with lung cancer after a chest MRI and because it was caught early, it is treatable tho' not curable.
Try not to worry, the scan takes 20 mins and you get results within a few days.
Good Luck!

From what I've seen just by looking up "images" on the internet, you can see your liver, in color, just like a photograph. .... Could be scary. .... Could be the start of something new for you -- a new way of life to repair the damage. As long as you have a way to pay for it, why not?
Do a Yahoo search for MRI liver, clicking on "images" instead of "web."

Here's one I found that shows a liver damaged by alcoholism:

http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images/view?back=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%2Fimages%3Fp%3Dmri%2Bof%2Bliver%26ei%3DUTF-8%26imgc%3Dcolor%26fr%3Dslv8-%26b%3D21&w=504&h=331&imgurl=www-medlib.med.utah.edu%2FWebPath%2Fjpeg4%2FLIVER011.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww-medlib.med.utah.edu%2FWebPath%2FLIVEHTML%2FLIVER011.html&size=71.3kB&name=LIVER011.jpg&p=mri+of+liver&type=jpeg&no=21&tt=124&oid=23ac6a2845a04868&ei=UTF-8

Click on it. There are other images, as well.

Good luck!
