I'll be 20 real soon and am interested in fencing lately. But i have not been a sporty person. And i heard that legs have to be strong in fencing. My legs are not long and not strong as well. Can I still get a good grasp in fencing? What can I do to strengthen my legs apart from running? there must be other exercises that I can do. Thanks in advance!

Your age won't really matter. While not being sporty will mean that you will start with a disadvantage, you will quickly catch up. Just stick with it, your body will adapt.

If you want to be a good fencer, or to build up a little before you start there are number of exercises.
For fencing you need leg strength and endurance (flexibility is helpfull also), I would suggest biking, aerobics, leg squats, and pilates. Also switch it up. Bike one day, squats the next, etc.

Don't be discouraged. If you stick with it you'll build up the muscle in no time. Some fencers I know don't do anything but fence, others do whatever they can to condition. It depends a great deal on time and whether you're conditioning for tournaments.

Congratulations on deciding to fence! This decision will benefit you throughout your life. Good health is only one side effect of fencing!

You don't necessarily need to be "sporty" to fence, although it helps if you're planning on competing. The "strong legs" phrase often used by fencers trying to advertise the sport. It doesn't mean you have to be Mohammed Ali or anything, but a good pair of legs is an asset. If you want to strengthen your legs, work on simple excercises such as squats, lunges, and the like. You mainly want to strengthen your adductors and hamstrings. Once you get into it, normal footwork should be enough to stay fit. Hope this helps; and good luck!

If you really want to strengthen your legs you need to wear weights on them and walk around with them through your everyday life. If you have at least 5 lbs. or more weight on your weights, you will definately see improvement. Aside from that which is the easiest way, you need to go to the gym and do squats. Get as much weight on your back as you can and squat down as low as you can as many times as you can. If you do this consistently, you will have the strong legs that will enable you to fence well.

You do not need to be a sporty person.
fencing is a great sport because people of all shapes, sizes, and strengths can do it.
onece you start to fence, that will get your legs stronger, by doing footwork, bending your knees, and lunging.

You can do alot of running. Run like 5 miles at least three times a week, and drink energy drinks while you're at it.
Jumping jacks,
and lots of
stretching exercises as well
