Unfortunately most men will cheat if given the opportunity. I would be friendly to him, but make sure that he is broken up with his gf before dating him. Its a good sign that he at least told you about the girlfriend though. At least he isnt trying to hide anything from you.

If he is still interested in his girl friend, forget him. There is a saying in my place that an old wood does not die..It catches fire and burns faster than fresh wood. Good luck!

Don't disrespect a girl you don't even know by having HER guy cheat with you. If you like this guy, and it's mutual, ask him to break off with her, THEN you can go out with him.
