do they go round your house and lock the windows, feed the cat, take things off the hob etc, and lock the front door for you? you never see that on CSI or the Bill...

The cops will take reasonable care to do things like locking your door when they leave. But that's about it. They're certainly not going to feed your cats - that kind of stuff is up to you to handle.

I will lock the doors if I can before leaving and I have thrown some food in a cat or dog dish on a rare occasion (especially if the arrestee asks me too) and the food is out on the counter. I will not start searching through cupboards for pet food though. Shutting windows? Well, it would depend on the attitude of the person arrested. If they were cooperative and decent to me and asked me to do it, I would. Someone cursing and fighting me would not put me in a charitable frame of mind.
I do make an effort to feed pets if I attend a sudden death or suicide because sometimes it has been days since the fish/turtle/bird/cat has been fed and there are no close relatives around to help.

depending on how you are arrested, dog goes to animial control but they do lock the door behind them when they leave ( unless it was broken down getting in) in which case they just drive off with door open.

You have to make arrangements from jail to get animals fed.
They will close the door...they won't check windows, unless one of them really cares.
They look at it this way.....You had no concern for someone/something (to get arrested).......why should they?

all meat found at the home of the one arrested is donated and cooked at the next policeman's ball. dogs and cats included. and if you had any dope in the house the are going to enjoy that as well.
