It was September 11, 1857. A wagon train of 160 settlers on their way to California was massacred by a bunch of Mormons dressed in Indian clothes. 17 children under the age of 8 were spared and lived to tell their story.
1st. They dressed as Indians but after five days they changed tactics.
2nd. Then they went a bit away ,dressed back into normal clothes and acted like the Rescue Party who had negotiated a deal with the"Indians".
3rd, Then confiscated all the guns as part of the deal for "saving" the travellers and Mormon dissidents( who were the reason for the attack in the first place).
4th. Took everybody off a mile or so and shot them all. 2 men got away but were eventually tracked down and killed a day or so later.
5th. Took the 17 children they had not killed back with them to Salt Lake City.
6th. Got away with it. After a publicized trial, with the childrens own testimony admitted into the court, only 1 man was convicted and hung, John D. Lee. ( pardoned by Church 1950)

It ended up being called the Mountain Meadows Massacre. The first time in U.S. history that U.S. citizens were massacred on U.S. soil by religious wackos. This event is even more significant because the total U.S. population at the time was much smaller.(I dont know the exact numbers, maybe only 30 million or so) In todays numbers it would be around 1400.

Yes I am aware of it.
Name me any group that doesn't have a dark past or something they don't want to brought up again.

I do disagree with Mormons for my own reasons but they are far better with families and taking care of each other. The set a better example today than a lot of Christians.

I don't think you can call a 9/11. They didn't come from another country than left.

You want a 9/11 type in history how about the Birtish burning DC in 1814.

I was aware of the "Mountain Meadows Massacre" because some people have spoken of it. However, I was unaware that it took place on September 11. Interesting coincidence?

Read the classic book "Mountain Meadows Massacre" by Juanita Brooks for a more detailed account.

The Mountain Meadows Massacre. A wagon train from Northwest Arkansas led by a distant relative of mine named Fancher.
The record shows that Brigham Young knew of this and sanctioned it.
Google "mountain meadows massacre" for more information.
I have an abiding dislike of mormons because of this.

No, I didn't know about that, but I think every one who thinks you are a Mormon hater is wrong to call you that. I mean just because you pointed this out does not necessarily make you a Mormon hater. We should never hate anyone, hate the actions of someone, but not the person. As God's word says, hate the sin, but love the sinner. We must be forgiving of everyone, if we expect God to forgive us of our sins.

You're not very good with a calendar. There have actually been about six thousand 9/11's since we started keeping track of em. We've got another one coming up in just under 6 months!

Sigh......Just another Mormon hater with some twisted and manipulated bit of info .....

1857?Nice to hear that you are concerned with current events as well.We can go back in history and find dirt on every race, creed, religion, and color. So apparently your purpose was to somehow discredit Mormons because of this? How sad.
