There is the westernized christian wedding then there is the original christian wedding brought down from the time of the apostles. Check out orthodox weddings. They are beautiful. Candles, crowns, that is what ours was.

in christian wedding the formal wedding, in church presumably, is the only ceremony, where the bride and groom meet formally, are wed formally, receive presents, and then leave for their private business (of having sex as a married couple for the first time).
In Muslim wedding there is a consummation of the wedding in Private (family) event, that is the bride and groom have sex for the first time (usually the family wants to be sure the bride is virgin, to avoid embarrassment), and later there is a reception for the large community and guests, Guests do not usually give presents during the reception but before.

I had a very simple wedding at a Mosque. My husband gave a gift to me at the ceremony of gold and diamonds. The whole process took 30 minutes.

In Christian weddings, the best man sleeps with the bride when the groom looks away. In Muslim weddings, everyone just sits and prays.

In Islam there should be at least two ppl to witness for the marriage. other than the groom, the bride and the one responsible to marriage them..and the groom has to pay anything to the bride or to give her whatever they agree it will be as a gift ,it is called MAHR...and it doesn't have to be in the Mosque.
