Dogs are in their teens years from approxiamtely 6 months to two years old... even longer for some breeds. Most dogs will naturally chase their tails. Sometimes out of boredom, if they aren't getting enough exercise or even if they get over excited. Also, if you have been reacting to his tail chasing, then he has learned that he can do this to get your attention. Like any child a he craves attention and will take what he can get, good or bad.

Sounds like a perfectly wonderful, normal puppy to me, and an owner who wasn't prepared for that at all. Your pup needs exercise and interaction with you, and you need to learn a little bit about what dogs lives are like. Why did you get a dog?

take him for a walk twice a day. give him some toys to chew and keep him occupied. spend time training him. it sounds like he's just bored. he needs some activities to break up his day. dogs can sleep a lot but they need stuff in between to keep them interested.
