Go running/jogging when you wake up, that burns more fat than sugars than if you ran mid morning or afternoons. Also do your pushups and situps.
Start with just doing them, then later as you get more in shape you can run longer, do more situps, and do more pushups.
I am a big advocate of sports for girls so that they can learn confidence and work together and build friendships within their teams. It's not about the guy's side where they act like they are superstars, it's about the social and healthful side of doing something instead of sitting on the couch and watching TV or blogging on MySpace.
Good for you, you definately have a great height for playing volleyball and I bet you will do well at the sport. Good luck......
ps, my daughter plays softball and loves it, even though she does it for the social aspect, she is one of the strongest players on the team because of her natural athletisicm.

i know you've heard this a lot, but cardio cardio and stretching.
For a game plan, try to jog 1/2 mile. What i did was stretch a bit. Jog to where ever i was going to run. Then do a lil stretch. for a warm up. then i would run the 1/2 mile without stopping no matter how tired i was. After about two weeks or so, i would take a weekend and see if i can run it faster and add a lil more so when i start the new week, i can go 3/4 of a mile. This just helped on endurance. but cardio for 45 min is good. hope that helps. i also did a lil crunches and push ups during my initial get back in shape phase

I recommend starting off gradually with weight training workouts that emphasize squatting movements. However, train the whole body and do not ignore body parts. As your shape improves, include some plyometrics but do not overdo it due to the relatively high impact nature. These are good for your jumping ability (I suspect that you might be a spiker). Make sure that your nutrition is balanced while minimizing empty calories. However, avoid low carb diets because they will severely deplete your energy and athletic performance.

To get in shape for volleyball, take a mile jog everymorning and watch what you consume. this might help wonders. i might sense an analogous way approximately no longer having attempt outs. wanting to get is shape in any case. And overhand serves, in basic terms make a line of tape against your place or regardless of and prepare getting your serves over the line of tape.

Wow! 6'1 is quite tall for 14-no wonder you're in the volley ball team. (Not meaning that in a rude way).
Please do not go on a fad diet. But I'm guessing that because you want to be healthy as well you're not going to go on one of those. . . First of all you need to take control of what you eat. Don't eat as much junk food as you used to, don't completly cut it out yet- wean yourself of it and fizzy drinks and all that stuff. Then start eating smaller portions, don't eat so much lunch or replace something you usually eat with salad but remember to always eat all your nutrients-carbs, proteins, vitamins and even some fats are good for you!
Well as you're in the volleyball team I'm guessing you exersize quite alot but start exersizing more! Theres no way you're going to lose weight with out some exersize. And remember tyhe first 30 minutes you exersize you'll be burning glucose not fat. You can do this, Good Luck!!
P.S. You say you're slightly over weight but how much do you weigh?

Have you asked your coach for a workout plan? He or she has almost certainly studied fitness in college and played sports for a long time.
When my son was in school, his coaches ALWAYS had recommended offseason workouts for the boys.
