I don't think anyone should be trying to stick a label on a wee boy who has had one headache. Unfortunately this is the result of an increasing desire by society to compartmentalise or blame something for every event that occurs.

If your grandson has repeated problems, he should however have a check up from his GP.

Generalising, Migraine certainly does seem to run in families and often via the female line. Migraine can occur in very young children, and the protective medication most commonly used in FREQUENT sufferers is licenced down to age 2 years.

Migraines can begin at any age, even in infancy. My granddaughter had her first Migraine when she was just over two. Migraine is hereditary. Since her mother has Migraines, the child has a 50% chance of having the disease. Time for a trip to the pediatrician to confirm that it's Migraine and not something else and for advice for how to treat the. There are other symptoms that you can sometimes notice in young children even if they don't know to tell you about them...
• Sensitivity to or shying away from light
• Sensitivity to or avoiding noise
• Nausea
• Stomach ache

Good luck to you and your family.

I don't think there is age restrictions on migraines...but it could have just been a regular sore head or that he wasn't feeling well. If it happens again the first thing would probably be to get his eyes checked as if you go straight to the doctor they will usually recommend that first, before they take any further action. If he has already been checked for eye sight difficulties etc then just take him straight to his gp...it could be nothing so don't worry.

Headache is a pain in the head, scalp or neck.
Headaches can be caused by minor problems
like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more serious reasons
like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can
have harmful side effects, so it is better to
modify your lifestyle. More information available at
