Yes and no. There was a different sensibility in the Roman world - it was quite acceptable for men to seduce younger boys, though still frowned on for them to have gay sex with men of their own age. There's some evidence that Julius was the bedmate of a client king as a young man, but he was also, during his rise to power, a notorious seducer of wives and maidens among the senatorial class. He would probably not have been considered gay in Roman society.
