The answer is 12,500 (12% is 1,500. If base salary is 1,500, and he earned 3,000, 3,000-1,500 = 1,500)

base salary = 15000
let amount of sales made be x
1500 + (12% of x) = 3000
i.e. 1500 + (12/100)*x = 3000
(12/100)*x = 3000 - 1500
(12/100)*x = 1500
(12/100)*x = (12x)/100
i.e. (12x)/100 = 1,500
12x = 1500*100 = 150,000
x = (1500*100)/12 = 150,000/12

x = $12,500
