African Greys are very smart. I have two! I have a one yr old Timneh and a 1 yr old Congo and I have had previous Greys. You do not need to speak to them in a cartoony or child like voice. You do not need to repeat a single word over and over because that will bore them. Greys do not even begin speaking until 1.5 to 2 years old, so he is not too old to begin talking since they can outlive many humans. I assume that Jako does make noises and immitate other household sounds (microwave, phone, home alarm). Some of the information above is correct. Some Parrots never talk, but most do say atleast a few words. The best thing that you can do for Jako is spend time with him and listen to HIS language. Talk to him like he is human...ask him questions and listen for his non-verbal answers (whistles, head nods, clicks) and acknowledge his answers as if it was human speech. Most of all be consistent...if you say the same things when you are letting him out of his room, or leaving, or picking him up...he will eventually begin to pick those phrases up. MOST IMPORTANTLY--Love him whether he ever utters a word or not!! They are smart and understanding even if they never say a thing...don't give up hope! They can learn to speak at any age. Your baby with the proper diet can live 50-75 years...give him some time and all the love you can!!

Some Grey's never talk but that doesn't make them defective. If your bird were in the wild it would never have a human voice. All Grey's that DO talk do so when they are ready. The best way to get your bird to talk is by talking to him using the same sayings and expressions always. Sometimes people (I'm not saying you) buy a bird, leave it in a cage all day and then wonder why it doesn't talk. Teaching a parrot to talk takes a lot of time. Parrots in general require a lot of time. Is your bird getting enough time from you? If it is, then be patient, but if it never learns to talk love your Grey for the bird he is. I'm willing to bet however, with the right amount of time and stimulation he will talk. Dr. Irene Pepperberg uses the "Model Rival" method where two people and the bird have a class together. The teacher asks the parrot "what's this?" as she hold a piece of his favorite food or toy or some object. Of course if the bird does not answer she turns to the other person and asks the question. If the person answers incorrectly (and sometimes they should) she says "No" and turns her head away. If answered correctly she give him the item making a big fuss about it. Next switch instructors. When your class is done walk away. Your parrot did not talk and did not get the reward. It really wants the reward so hopefully in a short time it will learn to play the game by saying the word. Good Luck!

Keep saying the same word to your parrot (for example, your name) The parrot will soon start to mimic you and say that word whenever he feels like. Continue saying word after word, until the parrot does not start mimicking you. This way, he would be able to speak a lot of words
And when the parrot does, Reward him with some food.

well... it might be a little hard to teach him, hes alittle old doncha think? but if u want to teach him, everyday repeat the same word while holding that item in from of him, like a book. put the book in front of him and repeat the word book. keep doing this over and over (it might take days, weeks or months depending on the parrot) until it learns

parrots talk by repeating what the hear most often. if you want it to say 'hello' you will need to say it repetitively for it to learn. food will help also.

if you keep talking to it, it will probably mimic some of your words. what ever you want it to say just say that word or words over and over it will pick it up naturally
