Fords website has a newish feature called the "Accessorizor"
from there you can view a vehicle in different colors, with different accessories:
http://www.fordaccessoriesstore.com/fas/b2c/catalog.asp
the site will show you 2006 or 2007 body styles but won't look much different from your 2004.
Spoiler & Rims will get you the most bling for the buck.
Btw, the new '08 can be viewed from:
http://www.fordvehicles.com/Cars/2008focus/
I've seen it in person, last month at the Chicago auto show.
It is pretty Hot!
Check out the new interior & 'Sync'
((((((Ya might want to hold off modifying the '04 & saving the $s to trade up in the fall !?)))))))

Go for subtle every time. Remove badges and stick on bump strips etc. Lower the car slightly, about 1", fit slightly larger wheels/tyres, try a twin headlight conversion. Take detail out rather than nail it on, leave you a smooth clean look.
Huge plastic body kits bump up insurance and look cheap.
Paint. Have it professionally repainted in a custom subtle shade.
See if you can find LED rear light clusters, these can look really slick.

trade it in on a 05 or 06 Mustang, and check out the stuff thats available now in the links here
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/6cylMustangsonly/
if you keep it, the best thing you can do is bigger tires and rims

Get a set of rims, clear tail lights, and tint your windows.

Bodykits are an obvious choice.
Although you could make it look like an RS. that would be cool.
