If you want cheap power fast, the only way is nitrous oxide injection. I don't recommend it as the rest of the engine may not take it, and your tyres, suspension and brakes may not be safe with the extra power. Other methods are fit a larger engine, reduce the weight of your car to make the most of what power you have, buy a more powerful car etc.
Conventional methods of engine modifying are to increase breathing - fit a free flowing air filter and exhaust, then fit higher performance manifolds, cams, turbo or supercharge it, intercool the turbo charger, fit higher compression pistons..
The path is endless. Ask yourself why you want a more powerful car - all this costs megabucks - and see if the larger engine/different car/lighter method is better.
If you just want to go fast, there is no beating a sports motorbike.
Safety first though. Any more power to your car and be sure the tyres/brakes/suspension are up to it.

Modify the air intake system and the evacuation system - or you can just modify the evacuation system (add turbo and increase the size of the pipes). Modifying only the air intake system wouldn't do you much good, because you would be generating too much exhaust without having enough piping to let it out - you'd end up choking the engine.
However, note that turbo works better on diesel stock engines rather than gas engines. Replacing the exhaust system is pretty costly though.
Another way to get power is by modifying the injection system - but if this is not done right you could end up screwing your engine bad...
And, most important, don't do anything to your car without talking it through with a specialist or researching it thoroughly as any modification may prove at least a bit hazardous...

One of the easiest ways to add a few HP fast is to get a good cold air intake and a chip. This will add a good chunk of HP that you will notice the first time you drive it after these mods are done
