Don N- What part of wearing a bullet proof vest, gun, handcuffs, etc. could lead a person to believe that their job will be anything but stressful? Sorry, I choose to hold police accountible for their actions instead of sticking my head in the sand and pretending that they can do no wrong. If they can't handle the stress then they need to resign rather than becoming just as bad of a person as the people they arrest.

Let me ask, who are you going to call when someone steals your laptop, or keys up your car, or gives you the pimp-slapping beatdown you obviously so richly deserve?

Moron, your first post has very little to do with accountability and everything to do with your set-in-stone attitude towards law enforcement. You draw erroneous conclusions by assuming facts not in evidence, and please don't bore me with anecdata.

Why are you pretending to be an objective seeker of truth when in reality you have already made up your tiny little mind and just have an axe to grind?

How many times have you been arrested and what have you been arrested for. People who become police officers are well aware of the stress and danger involved in their jobs.

Contrary to what you think it takes a special kind of person to willingly place themselves in danger to keep the rest of society safe. Instead of bad mouthing the cops why don't you try doing a ride along and spend some time in their shoes.

In all fairness, there are some bad police officers out there that abuse their power;however, 95% of the cops out their take their jobs seriously and do their jobs with honesty and integrity. Being a police officer isn't a job for everyone.

The police do not pretend to be anything, they are doing what we pay them to do and the things we can never pay for besides. And I don't know about Ill-tempered. These people (Yes, they are people with families) put themselves into harms way on a daily basis to protect You and I. I am sorry they don't please you because their customer service is below your standards, but they work on tough streets. As for being Bullies, I am sure there will be a fair sprinkling of those in the Police force but not more than in the larger soceity.

D.L., I was at a car crash the other night. One of my boys climbed in the thing while it was on fire and upside down. We pulled out a girl who had %75 of her body burned. Another guy was tossed and his head was crushed. I got to hold a poor young lady till EMS arrived while the bones stuck out of her foot and her leg was bent back. The other guy in the car had both hips busted. Needless to say two of them died. You know that the stuff we deal with. My buddy did't pretend to climb into a smoke filled car. I didn't pretend to comfort a girls as her sister lay on the stretcher burned. Ill tempered. Ya, I can go from your best friend to you being on your face and cuffed in these words, "down, down!" That's what it takes. If you go 50% on the street someone can get hurt or killed. Am I a bully? No. Do I have guns? Yes, I roll every night w/ three. Two on me and one in my trunk. Oh, and a taser. And yes I use it. I would hate for some liberal to think that I just like to throw my 6'5" 20 pounds around when I can use "less lethal" force....

Im not an illtempered bully with a gun....I dont pretend anything.....so who the f**k are you to make a statement like that about me without knowing anything at all about me?..without having never met me?..or heard of me?..or driven through my city?.....if I was an assumer I would have to think maybe you were in some sort of a meeting with a police officer and opened your mouth or otherwise screwed the pooch and had your a*s handed to you or you are a criminal and will always be on the wrong end of the law or you are some sort of inside passive who sits at a computer all day long and never goes outside and believes everything you hear or see on your monitor and the TV news....sad life you live.....guess you would think I am a bully.....Im sorry for you....when my partner was shot and killed by a 16 yr old mentally disturbed juvinile it was people like you that wanted to free him because he wasnt able to understand what he did was wrong...he knew if he pointed that shotgun at my partner he would die when he pulled the trigger, and when he pointed that same gun at another officer and pulled the trigger that officer could have died...he knew that much....its really a good thing that smart people prevailed and he is locked up for life...people like you would have let him walk the streets some more....

Most of the los angeles cops are good guys. I think they need to lighten up a little but I guess all the crazy people they have to deal with makes them a little uptight. We have in the san fernando valley (part of los angleles) 60 gangs, plus a lot of homeless people in the hollywood area that are troublemakers.

Il-tempered? Hmmm.... most people would think it was inapropriate if I smiled at people as I arrested them.
We are not Wall-mart greeters.
I have very little patients for drunks or beligerent people who are automatically defensive and nasty to me when I approach them to ask them the simplest of questions.

I will however do my very best to be compasionate and gentle to an 80 year old who just had her purse stolen and to smile at a five year old while I am dealing with her idiot parents at a domestic dispute.

Cops are people. Some (many?) are drawn to the profession for the power it gives them. There are good cops and bad cops. Usually, the bad ones get weeded out after time. They are, after all answerable to elected officials.
I have found that most people who hate police are thugs.

Old adage says "Never judge someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes!". Police on a daily basis have to put up with the worst of the worst of our society. They never know when they stop a car for a simple traffic violation if the person will get out of the car shooting.

When you deal with people who are violent, foul mouthed and show you no respect for what you are trying to do you become a little bit ill tempered.

Sounds like a major generalization to me. I agree the police are just people too..and sometimes act much like the ill-tempered people they arrest. However, they typically act legally.
