I'd say it can definitely be mistaken for falling out of love.
...Especially if the couple in question aren't communicating very well. Fear of commitment can usually have one person acting "cold" towards the other with no explanation given, which leads to the wrong assumptions being made by the other party ie: 'have I done something wrong?', or of course, 'maybe they don't love me anymore'
The only way to avoid misunderstandings leading to hurt feelings is to explain your feelings and talk them through XD.
In any case, as long as everyone's honest and open (even though things are never that simple or easy) then nothing can be mistaken for anything other than what it is...

I think it easily can. I was on the other end of the spectrum though, and was acctually falling out of love with my at the time soon to be husband, and insisted it was just me having a fear of commitment.
I could totally see how it could be the other way around as well. You should search deep in your heart, and think long and hard about what you want. Commitment is a big step, and should not be taken lightly.

I think It can be mistaken for falling out of love, The key here (i reckon) is comunication you have to tell the other person you think you are afraid of comitment and continue to show them you love them. Don't ever rule commitment out maybe its not fear of commitment its just you're not ready yet . My partner told me he was never going to get into a serious relationship again after his last marraige, and that was over 5 years ago. we've just bought a house together now.

If you fear to commit them you might not love them that much... Like i always say: Always think about your feelings first cuz your happiness depends on you...There is always time n if you need more time then tell them you need the time to think about yourself
