I used "Head and Shoulders Anti-Dandruff" shampoo on my cat several times when he was heaving skin issues. As per my Vet's instructions, I left the lather on for 3 mins and rinsed completely away. So.... it should be alright to use it on a cat. My concern is that your cat is 17 years old. I would really hesitate to do anyting that could possibly be stressful to him just becuase of dandruff. Besides, it may NOT be dandruff but dry skin. Why not consult your vet about it before doing anything?

Thats really strong stuff! I wouldn't use it. Sometimes not getting all the shampoo or conditioner out can look like dry skin.
Try Avon skin so soft spray. Dilute it 50 % skin so soft / 50 % water.
Your cat could have allergies to something in your house. Believe it or not...their bedding, carpet, etc.
You may want to make an appointment with a vet.

Yes. It is generally a mistake to use human or dog products on a cat. Cats lick themselves and anything you put on a cat gets in a cat. It would not be a bad idea to call the vet and see what sort of shampoo they recommend.
They make all kinds of shampoos for cats. I would try one with oatmeal or one that is marked for sensitive skin.
When I had a cat with bad dandruff I ended up giving him extra vitamins. Talk to your vet about this. You want something loaded with Omega3 and 6 fish oils and vitamin d. These vitamins have cod liver oil in them so cats like them.

Please don't do this to your cat. That is full of chemicals that could severely cause harm to your cat. Most cats do not need to be bathed. If yours does need a bath for some reason, consult with your vet as to what they recommend. Your pussycat is a senior citizen and does not need stress at its time of life.
Also bathing the cat will cause it pain if it already has arthritis and I don't think the dandruff would be fixed with Head and
Shoulders. Your cat could be lacking a hormone or vitamin that may need to be adjusted by dietary means. Do check with your vet please.
Best wishes,
Lisa

Shampoos made for humans should never be used on cats (or dogs) - not even baby shampoo. These shampoos are the wrong pH will damage your pet's skin and coat. If you are trying to treat a skin problem, they will do more harm than good.
Check at your local pet store or with your vet for pet shampoos designed to treat dry skin or dandruff in pets. There are several out there.

you would be better getting cat shampoo from your vets.
I always bath my cats and I can tell they feel better for it .
They may not like it at the time but after they are dry they
look years younger.

Try to stick to cat shampoo and when you do bathe him make sure that he stays warm but not hot, and check, while your bathing him, if the water has cooled, or if he is shivering.
