I agree with Julia Encarnacion. Most people who resort to suicide are in a deeply depressed state of mind. The depression clouds the mind and one cannot think clearly. They are literally out of touch with reality, which is why reality feels so harsh and cold to them, and they want out. The depression puts a fog over the eyes, so to speak, making it so the person cannot see beyond the feelings of despair. I think that God has immense compassion on such people. I am just a human, deficient in compassion - and yet I have great compassion on such people - so God must have even more. So I don't think that God lets people like that suffer eternal punishment.

A suicidal person needs healing from professionals, and it is not a good idea in most cases to tell someone who is suicidal that they are being sinful or selfish. That only makes them feel guilty about their own feelings, which they have a right to.

In a way it is a sin because the person who acts suicidal takes away her life, which she has received. On the other hand I think a person like this has lots of problems which impair a just judgment of what she is doing, therefore in general I think she is not fully responsible for her wrong deed.
The best way to avoid any thoughts of suicide is talk to accepting and loving friends (I hope you are not thinking about it).

no, sin is a delusion given to you from a religion belief. It is an end to what could be a life that would be enjoyed. In elderly it could be a means to end suffering. Imagine knowing that you are going to be in pain for hours/day/weeks before you die. You may not have choose when you were born, but every decision after that is yours why not the last.

In most cases, probably not -- because sin requires free consent generated by a healthy mind, but it's doubtful that people who are fully healthy mentally would take their own lives.

I'd imagine that most suicides, if not all, are the result of very serious mental or emotional problems -- which would greatly mitigate the guilt associated with the taking of one's own life, if not completely remove the guilt altogether.

Catholics believe suicide when committed in full knowledge and deliberate consent is a complete turning away from God (a mortal sin) and will send a person to hell.

There are 3 conditions of a mortal sin: grave matter, full knowledge, and deliberate consent.

While suicide (or any kind of murder) is always a grave matter, people who commit suicide may not always have full knowledge of what they're doing. Drugs can definitely impair one's thinking, as can other things, such as diseases, intense pain, or anguish.

Therefore, suicide is not automatically treated as a mortal sin.

We are commanded by Christ not to judge others so we leave final judgment to God who alone knows each person's heart.

With love and prayers in Christ.

Sin or not, bottom line is, DON'T.

If you're an atheist, life's over. You're gone, out of the picture.

If you're a Christian, it's down to Hell you go. Suicide is a sin, period.

No matter what faith (or lack thereof) you have, suicide is not the answer. Talk to a family member, friend, counselor or pastor about this.

It is a controversial question and like all relious things, you will never until until you die.

Personally, I don't think it is. Just because most countries have laws that "try" and stop suicide, it doesn't stop a lot of people trying and still more succeeding.

It's our own personal lives, no one is in control of what we can and can't do with them, but ourselves - not the governments or even god, since god supposedly gave us free will to do with as we see fit.

There are no sins; hurting other people is wrong, but a person's life belongs to them.

However, it's almost always a very, very bad decision - except for somebody who is dying or is in constant pain.
