I was at a bar last night and...
Shots = $12
Glass of wine = $9
Clever how they price it an odd number so I'll get $1 bills in change to leave them a tip.

most drinks at bars are overpriced. it sucks. you know it only costs a dollar to make most daquiris yet they charge between 7-13 dollars for one? bars make a killing off of the alcohol they sell. for the price of two bottles of beer you could have bought a six pack at the liquer store. that's why i prefer to stay at home and have friends over. b.y.o.b.

Some of it depends on what state you are in. There are different tax rates between the alcohol sold directly to consumer and that sold through a distribution point (bar).

Although bars and restaurants purchase alcohol cheaper than we can in a store, they usually mark up a bottle at least 125% to cover all their overhead expenses (the bartenders' salaries, electric bill, rent, etc...), they also need to make a profit.

Wine is always expensive, they will go for a little more expensive bottle than I typically buy for home, although it may not taste as good, it makes them appear to be a little more of a high class place.

Well, it depends on what bar you go to. If you go to one of the most popular places in town, or the biggest night spot, then you are going to spend a lot more for alcohol, especially shots because they know with that many people at the best hangout bar in town, they are going to make an awesome profit. I would just buy alcohol at the store, and drink it at home. It would be a lot less expensive, and a lot more convienient.

Good luck!

Keep in mind that, when you're in a bar, you have to essentially pay rent for being there. Bar owners have a lot of overhead, including taxes.

Also, the stuff on the top shelf costs more because it costs the bar more to get. And I've seen a lot more than $12 for a shot. If you want the good stuff, you pay for it.

The more they charge you, the more profits they reap up. Also, most bars will not allow people to bring in their own alocholic beverages. The same goes for movie theaters for charging $6 popcorn and $4 soda. You have no choice but to buy it with that price unless you dont buy at all.
