hahaha for gungho's response. In response to that barb I say:
If you want a job done send in the Marines. If you want it done right, send the Army.
You only three things on your PT test...running, push ups and sit ups. So, start running, do some sit ups and start on the push ups....no sweat and you'll love the Army, you'll make new friends, learn new skills and have memories and experiences you cannot now think of

You can never be prepared for the physical side of training, but you can work on the basics first.
Running up to ten miles with weight on is a good starter.
Upper body strength is vital, so do heavy weights in building your shoulders and arms and upper back.
Your day will start with PT and go on for most of the day,
In between you will do drill, marching, rifle drills, square bashing and more PT.
Then there is classroom theory and the indoctrination process.
You will get about 5 mins to gulp down your meal and be at your next assignment.
You cant prepare for the shock of all this, but now you know a little of what you can expect at basic training.
Once you complete basic and go on to advanced infantry skills, you will then be assigned to your Batt.
Its just a short hop, skip and jump to Iraq.
Best of luck.

sit-ups and pull- ups are good as are the basic push up. But do not over do any of it. It is better to show up a little less fit than sore and strained from last minute exercise. Running is the best over all preparation. The Army loves to run. (Grin)

Give yourself a practice pt test. If you can pass it I wouldn't worry about the physical part. You should be more worried about the lack of sleep and stress of being held responsible for the actions of about 50 other people. Remember there will always be one idiot and nothing you do was going to be right anyway so just relax and don't show weakness. Good Luck

Running, push ups, sit ups. A good idea is to participate in sports or Jr. ROTC. There are also good organizations such as Civil Air Patrol (more air force oriented).
If you wish to work out on your own, try the Navy Seal Workout challenge series.
