There is professional body painting and private body painting. The professional method uses special non-toxic paints, a professional artist and photographer, and a patient subject who may have breasts painted, but who wears underware matching the paint color. The crotch is an area where external materials could invade the rest of the body, so paint of any kind is not healthy.
The private body paints are edible forms for use with your special person, in private. With someone you are that close to it will be funny, sensitive, and how ever you both make that experience. If it hurts, the painter is pressing too hard. Speak up.

It's not uncomfortable at all. I got a latex paint on my chest and it was fine- a little cold at first, and a VERY strange sensation- you are walking around topless!!! But I liked it so much I got it done again. Both times I had a male artist and if they are doing that for a living, then they do not make you feel uncomfortable. Both the artists that painted me were very professional, and didn't touch me at all- it's a spray- on latex paint. You can't move around too much at first while it's drying (it'll smear or run), but after it's dry it's all good! Just don't rub up against people too much. ;)

Well let me see? No, on second thought, don't.

Ways to apply paint? There is the brush, a roller, splatter, smear, finger and spray. Then there is daubing the paint on, with sponge, even crumpled news paper will work.
As is suggested for all paint jobs, try the new color out on a small unnoticable area. That way if you do not like the color when it is dried, you can make the neccessary change.
The ways to apply paint are many. So experiment and have fun.

i have never done body painting so to speak, but i have sat for an artist and let them pull a mold form my body. nothing like 50+ pounds of plaster on your backside.
aside from that, they are extremely professional and i in know way felt uncomfortable. they explained the process and exactly what was going to happen.
being an artist myself, it was a little different posing, but it was an experience i will never forget.
not to mention my backside is floating around the art world somewhere.

Once my daughter accidentally spilled a bucket of black paint on me while painting a derby car. It was the kind of paint you can't wash off, even with gas and stuff. It felt really awful, I was coated almost everywhere. As a matter of fact, it felt so bad I went to the Dr after a couple days and she was glad I did. Guess it's dangerous cuz your skin can't breath.
