i know a lot who do. and most of them are single, well, maybe dating. they find themselves really attached to the pet. which, for me, may not be such a good thing. becasue, unfortunately, sooner or later, it dies. i think, also, that it is best not to give a pet a name. that way you do not feel too attached to it. then, it doesnt hurt as much when its time to say adios.

I was 8 months pregnant when i got my baby girl dobe(who is currently on the couch with me and my youngest son) so all my maternal instincts kicked in for her. She is the only dog i have had from a pup in the last 10 years so she holds a special place in my heart(all my dogs do but hers is extra special). I have 2 children, boys, so she is like my only girl child. She is also a sick girl so she is almost babied more than my children. So, no, its not only single, childless, people who think of their dogs as their children.

I also dont know what i am going to do when my baby girl leaves this world. I was bad enough when my last dog died, but i think i will be devastated, like it was one of my children.

Well, I raised my dog since he was a puppy and he's only 24.2 lbs so he's very small...
Actually the behavior of an adult dog or a puppy is almost the same. They want to play with us, with other dogs and they are always making nonsenses. But I think our pets make part of our family and since they are the ones with the worse behavior, worse then children sometimes and they bring happiness to our home like a child do and they are always needing us like a bond we have with them, they can be treated like babies. I love my Little dog. Is my baby. :P

i definitely do! i cant have biological children, so i have to nurse my "motherly" instincts some how! in many ways, he is human like on his own though. he whines and cries and gets very defensive when i take him to the vet (just like a human child going to the Dr's lol) and he can be very mouthy and belligerent! he sleeps in my bed right under my arms like how i would cuddle with my own child (not at the foot of the bed like normal dogs lol). he is a joy and a treasure, but just like a human child, he gets into trouble, and defies me! since i cant have children, he has really helped me cope with that pain and form of loss in my life, and I thank God everyday to have such a miracle in my life. So, in answer to your YES he is my child!

Absolutely NOT. They are 2 totally different species, do not have the same needs nor the same desires. How can any one compare their human child to that of a dog is beyond me. And how can anyone treat their dog like a human and rob it of its dignity is something else I will never understand. People think they are doing their dogs a favor by anthropomorphosizing them, they are not, they are destroying them. I can also tell the difference between a dog and a human.

Treat my dog as a child? She treats me like her mother! She stands on her hind legs in front of me, puts her front paws on either side of my shoulders and licks my face. She snores next to our bed, talks to us in her funny dog language when she wants something, expects me to play with her and her toys after spending a long day at home by herself, and comes cuddle in my arms when I am not feeling well. Of course I treat her like a child. She has the same needs as any child.

You bet! I'd die for mine.

I've been up till 5 am laying outside my dogs bed each night on a blanket waiting for her to have her pups. I'm gonna be there for her...it's my mommy duty!!

How can you not treat such unconditional love as your child!
