For instance, if I have a lot of muscle in my stomach and it is very flat, will it stretch? And if I have a C-section, will I have a harder time since my muscles are so thick? Will it be more painful and slow healing? Thanks.

They say the better shape you are in, the easier it is to have a baby. They do not cut through your muscles when they do a C-section. They cut the skin then part the muscles out of the way. If you are in shape, the muscles are more pliable.

For me childbirth was mind over matter. I went in saying no medication, no needles, no C Section. Why? I read that the medication only slows down your contractions. At a certain point they can give you any more so you can control your pushing. I knew my body and felt I could work through the contractions building up the tolerance to the pain (via mind over matter). Our bodies are made to handle childbirth. How else would there be so many people on the Earth!

Your body / muscles are going to accomodate the need for room that you child wil grown in. Staying fit and working out at different levels at the different stages of your pregnancy can be good and helpful during delivery. It will help build up you physical stamina.

I wouldn't worry over pain and slow healing. You are going to have a precious gift to share that time with. You'll have better things on your mind!

Get some books. I liked Merriam Stoppards. It helped me month by month understanding not only what was happening to the baby but also me, as mom to be!

Good Luck!!

First of all, childbirth varies for every pregnancy and every woman. Yes, my doctor told me that the more active you are during your pregnancy, the easier labor and delivery will be for you. It does not matter how flat your belly is right now, it will definitely stretch. Stretch marks however, depend on your skins elasticity, and weather or not you gain wait rapidly. Personally I have never had a cesarean birth, but I have heard from friends/family and numerous articles that recovery after a c-section is longer and more painful. I Hope I was of some help to you.

It all depends on the mother. Your belly will stretch and you will have more room for the baby to grow and it should make childbirth somewhat easier. HOWEVER It may be painful because your belly has stretched but when the baby comes out, it is getting out of that stretched belly and culd make it easier. you will probably experience pains in the stomach due to a stretched stomach.

yes your belly will stretch, its your skin that stretches not your muscle
no strong , healthy muscles heal faster and no more difficult for the surgeon
pain will be the same, but again. a fit healthy body often feals faster!
