I do because there has been nothing greater in this world that has impacted society more. It's a fascinating subject.
Just because you believe certain things, doesn't mean you're not curious about other views.

To try to teach the truth to the unfortunates who have been brainwashed by 2000 year old religous scripture.
I find it hard to live in a world where billions are living with a belief that the controlls used to keep order 2000 years ago are the word of an unknown, unseen entity that created everything. However they can not seem to see the insanity of their beliefs.
Adam and Eve first came along and where the father and mother to everyone. God then told Noah to build an ark and flooded the world. He then sends us Jesus to take away our sins. This is the perfect God you talk about in you scriptues and bibles and he has already had 3 attempts at getting it right. And for what purpose as the end will one day come and we will all go to heaven.
Cant you see the insanity you believe in. I post in the hope that others will help me show the religous robots out there that they believe in a form of mind-controll that was developed 2000 years ago. To give up those beliefs and start spending the time and effort they spend praying to a non existant god in to time and effort helping themselves help others rather than just believing god will take care of everything.

they said the same thing when jesus went to hell after the cruxifiction. just using your imagination . actually I feel I have the moral obligation to try and state the truth by setting things straight, for the future my outlook will be the majority and yours will become passe.and I enjoy it as well.glad you take no offense to my opposing point of view but if you were to upgrade the bible and it's five hundred mistakes and eliminate the god thing It would be greatly improved . much as if you took Buddhism the precurssor of biblical ethics and did away with the overflow of belief in re-incarnation . Bet you didn't study much religious history did you ? most theists haven't .especially without censorship by their religious leaders. As anti religious as I am I don't rape children or brainwash them with my beliefs without a balanced view . I don't line my pockets with stolen tithes or prosyletize false gods to the people so they have reason to kill one another or make up lies about the christ just to trick people into being good for the wrong reason or bribe them with a fools paradise or use fear tactics as hell fire contradicting all the false love of god the omniscient . even if the gods of mythology laugh at my attempt at the the honest truth I did what I had to to keep a clear conscience . hope you realize what I have someday and experience the clarity of mind the lack of delusion and the freedom of truth... my hands are clean and perhaps some day as much evil as I have seen come from organized religion maybe we will try to start a true religion with no god or devil at all but similar to an western form of enlightenment . you'll possibly thank us someday if the world can live in peace it will take a new kind of thinking for education to hold true.untill then i'm here as a spiritualist of natural means bringing together what I have learned from greater minds than I to new arenas of progressive thought for those who might gain from this food for thought.thank you too!

First, how can there be a debate about religion without bringing the most important point, god, into question. Second, religion and god are not necessarily tied together. For example, Buddhism is a religion yet they are technically atheists I suppose. It is a forum for religion discussion, and some atheists enjoy discussing religion.
Second, atheists can be spiritual. Spirituality does not have to revolve around god. Perhaps one finds it spiritual to be out in nature or some other thing like that.

1: I like to discuss interesting issues, and religion is one of them.
2: There's a certain amount of competitiveness - Can I present a better argument and refute my opponent's position?
3: There's somewhat of a sense of community with other atheists, with the common goal of debunking religious belief and promoting secular society.
4: I have a genuine desire to help people see that the religious beliefs they currently hold are insupportable - I know that people who become atheists are always grateful that they managed to 'see the light' and appreciate anyone who helped them in that regard.
5: I live in England where it's normal to be atheist, and religious folks are the oddballs, but even here we occasionally have trouble with the religious trying to impose their mistaken ideas and beliefs on the rest of society. I understand that it's much, much worse in other societies. This needs to be challenged. In a civilised world we should not have significant proportions of society believing that fairy tales are real and causing all sorts of problems and suffering as a result.
That's all I can think of at the moment. Hope this helps...

The category is Religion & Spirituality not Believers in Religion & Spirituality. Look at any other category and you will find opinions on both sides of an issue. For some reason those who believe that there is a man living in a cloud get upset if everyone doesn't think the same way that they do.

Why do republicans sense justified in going to the politics section to criticize Obama? we are all allowed to have differing critiques. Edit: that's an identical element. The politics board does no longer propose in straight forward terms people who consider Obama can submit there, and the religion and Spirituality board does no longer propose in straight forward terms people who consider any given faith can submit there. Come on, No danger, you're extra effective than the standard "get out in case you do no longer agree" argument.

1) This isn't a message board.
2) Anyone of any belief can enjoy discussing, debating, learning about, or educating others about the SUBJECTS of Religion and Spirituality. Many Christians are totally ignorant about atheism and we are happy to educate them about the facts.
3) Atheists are some of the most spiritual people on the planet.

One if the reasons is simply because believers specifically address questions to us just like you have done. I also study textural criticism. So if someone asks a question about the Bible, I have the background answer it. Some of the atheists on this board have been seminary students, and also most atheists were raised in religious homes. Most people don't play football, but they still watch the game.

Are members of royal families the only ones allowed to post in the Royalty category?
That's essentially what you're saying re R&S.
I grew up in the church and spent the first 35 years of my life actively involved in the study and practice of religion. Which means I do know a thing or two about it, including what it means to leave.
Besides, where else can you find such a witty, informed and intelligent gathering of people who have educated opinions on religion and religious matters and are atheists? Christians have churches, atheists have R&S.

Just because you do not believe in God does not mean you do not need human interaction. Religion and Politics are best left at home when you get into a ''chat room".Everyonr is entitled to their own beliefs and opinions. Our founding fathers put it in a doc. called THE CONSTITUTION !!
