Could you please give us a few more ideas of what you like to do. I don't mean to sound flippant, but Los Angeles is the second largest city in the United States so what ever it is you like to do you will find it here. Are you referring to the touristy things like going to the beach or Disneyland or to other types of activities. Also what kind of transportation will you be using while you're here. (The public transportation system leaves a lot to be desired). And what general area are you coming from? You probably don't want to do things you can easily do at home. Most parts of the Los Angeles area is relatively safe, but there are a few areas to avoid. You can get in an accident or shot anywhere in the country. Welcome to our city, and I hope your stay is a pleasant one.
PS: Be careful if you go hiking in the mountains, there's Cougars up there. (just teasing, I read your profile.)

Some areas of LA are dangerous. Some are wonderful and exciting! There are so many things to do. China Town, Little Toyoko, Olivara Street, and LaBrea Tar Pits, The museums MOCA, LACMA, Museum of Natural History, IMAX, Science, there is too many to name! They are all wonderful. As for Hotel mid range in Los Angeles? I don't think so, you are better off staying in the surrounding areas, besides it is less dangerous. If you don't know the area yes, it could get you into trouble. There are some neighborhoods where you could be shot for the color of your skin. So be careful and research it!
Good luck have a wonderful time!

It's true. We've all gotten into car accidents and gotten shot.
Seriously, the news is not filled with tourists getting shot. The majority of the violent crime here is gang on gang. Don't hang with gangs and don't do drugs (unless you're a movie star of course, then it's obligatory.)
