probably because we all feel safer when accompanied, whether by human or not human.

There could be several reasons for your problem. You may be lonely and substituting the emotions you would get from sharing your bed with a human, with a dog. You may not be realizing the harm you are causing to your dog by allowing it up on your bed and confusing it by making it think it's on the same level as you. You may also, falsely believe that by sleeping with your dog, he will "protect"you from harm, like other people here believe. Whatever the reason is, mark my words, you will end up having a problem with that dog in the future, just like everyone else will who does the same thing.

I used to like my cat to sleep in the bed so that he would wake me if there are any strange sounds in the house. It was like my own burglar alarm. It also might be because as children we sleep with stuffed animals, but as adults we no longer can so we replace the stuffed animals with live animals.

I love to sleep with my little Yorkie. Just waking up and seeing my loyal little baby makes waking up worth it. She loves my waterbed also. You probably enjoy it for the same reasons.

He's warm, and his fur probably feels nice, and it's soothing to have a breathing body in the bed with you. And if a robber breaks in, your best friend is right there to protect you!
