I've tried using a humidifier by my bed, but that didn't help. I have a water bottle by my bed so I can swish out my mouth, but it doesn't solve the problem of waking up so much.

Could this be a side effect of the allergy medication Zyrtec?

One of the side effects of Zyrtec is a dry mouth. If you only notice it at night it might be because you are snoring or at least sleeping with an open mouth. If that is the case, maybe your allergy medication isn't clearing your nose enough for you to breath through it while you sleep. You could try using nasal strips on your nose at night and see if that helps. If it doesn't I would call the Dr. and tell him/her your problem and see what he/she has to say. If it is congestion maybe he/she will prescribe and allergy medication with a decongestant.

It could be the medicine. I have a few meds that cause dry mouth. I wish I could remember the name of the medicine, but ask the druggist. There is a liquid medicine that helps quite a lot with that problem. It is an over-the-counter medication.

Zyrtec may make your mouth dry. Sucking hard candy, chewing a stick of gum, or melting bits of ice in your mouth can provide relief.

Try Biotene mouthwash and toothpaste before you go to bed it's formulated to help with dry mouth. I know they sell a gum and I believe a spray too. You should be able to find these products easily at Wa-Mart, Walgreens, etc..

Absolutely. Allergy medications tend to dry you out. Also, allergies themselves tend to have side affects. Try lowering your dose before bed. Contact your doctor and have him/her change your medication to something more tolerable.

Hope this helps.
