Hey, Next year I'm looking at volunteering overseas in something related to children and education in countries like Nepal, Ghana and Uganda. I would love any feedback from people who have done this. What companies you went through? How much it costs you? Any of this sort of information. Thanks :0)

Cross Cultural Solutions is the best, they have places all over the world you can go but since you seem to want to be in Africa you should go on their Kilimanjaro trip, its a great experience and you will never forget it. It will change your life. No matter how long you go, you're going to wish you stayed longer. It is pricey but they give you ways to raise funds for your trip, its around $3000 for 2 weeks and then like $300 for each extra week. Not only do you volunteer but they also have cultural immersion where they introduce you into the society and culture. This IS the best and most educational program by far. Good luck in whatever you decide but i promise CCS wont disappoint.

Every year thousands of people from abroad volunteer in Nepal. The usually do it through some cultural exchange organizations. I remember some months back a group of Koren students had successfully volunteered in remote ares of Nepal. BUT......Personally I have never known what the cost is ...But one thing is for sure..Nepal is one of the cheapest places in Asia to live in.

I know of volunterring programmes which my friends have gone for. It costs around two thousand dollars and they went for a trip to help the needy in Thailand and also to help in the Tsunami and teach Thai children English. My friends have feedbacked that they liked the trip very much and found volunteering very enjoyable. Later they even built contacts with the people there.

We need volunteers in America, why bother spending thousands to go overseas, seriously? There are many great organization in your city that could use your help and you would make a larger impact being that you are all ready culturally literate. If you go to Africa you'll spend a month just figuring out how not to offend people.
