I have a 16 year old all white half german sheaperd half Wolf. He's had a good 15 years but the last year, its all been going down hill. He doesnt eat anymore, hardly moves. Just sits in one spot. His hind legs "lock up" and is unable to move them often. He has no control over where he "poops" and the vet says hes going deaf. He has these cancer looking things on this legs which he has had over 3 surgeries for but they recently just came back! My parents dont want to and i dont either, but they think we should put him down, It breaks my heart seeing him like that but i wanna know, should we do that or let him go on his own?

Dogs don't have concept of quantity of life, but only of quality. When it is time for him to go, I hope you and your parents will recieve comfort from this:
May I go now
Don't you think the time is right?
May I say good-bye to pain-filled days
and endless lonely nights?
I've lived my life and done my best,
an example tried to be,
So can I take that step beyond
and set my spirit free?
I didn't want to go at first.
I fought with all my might!
But something seems to draw me now
to a warm and loving light.
I want to go! I really do!
It's difficult to stay.
But I will try as best I can
to live just one more day .
To give you time to care for me
and share your love and fears.
I know you're sad and are afraid
because I see your tears.
I'll not be far, I promise that,
and hope you'll always know
that my spirit will be close to you
wherever you may go.
Thank you so for loving me.
You know I loved you too.
That's why it's hard to say good-bye
and end this life with you.
So hold me now, just one more time,
and let me hear you say,
because you care so much for me,
you'll let me go today.

This is one of the hardest decisions any pet owner has to make....and the only advise I can offer is to look into your heart for the answer.
I would like to share a quick story with you though...I had a cat that I got at age 11. She was my pride and joy. All of the sudden, one day when she was 13 years old she just decided to stop eating....I waited about 4 days without her eating before I finally got her into the vet. He believed she had cancer and there was nothing that could be done for her. I was being kind of selfish because I loved her so much but I decided on a Wednesday that I would wait over the weekend and take her into the vet to be put down on Monday. On thursday she couldn't move and was crying so badly that I picked her up and held onto her that afternoon....she wound up dying in my arms and while it was relatively quick I know she suffered and I could have made it so much easier for her had I taken her it to be put down right away...and I will always feel badly about that.
Do what you feel is right in your heart.

The most loving thing you can do for your dog right now is to have him put to sleep I know it's one of the hardest thing you will have to do I know because I have had to do it on more than One occasion and while it breaks your heart remember all the good times you had together and how much he loved you and you loved him just hold him and talk to him when you take him to the vet he will understand your words remember he will always be a part of your life and his memory will stay with you forever and don't forget to tell him you love him and kiss him goodbye.

It's a hard decision to make but at least we have the option of helping our canine friends when the time comes. It sounds like your dog is not enjoying life anymore, do the right thing. We found it helped us when our labrador got very ill to call the vet to our house where he put her to sleep lying in a nice sunny spot in the garden. All the best

Although it is a difficult decision, it would be more merciful to the dog to take him to the vet and have him put to sleep. The dog would feel no pain and would be out of his misery. From what you described he is almost totally disabled.

It really depends on whether you can watch your dog get worse and possibly be in quite some pain, and whether his natural death would be painful or not. It might be more humane in the long run to put him to sleep, sorry.

DON'T let your beloved dog loose its dignity...
When a dog looses its dignity they loose the *spark of life* which used to be theirs...
It is up to us humans to know when it is time to end the pain and suffering of our beloved pets.. It is not easy but we must do what we must do in order not to prolong a dogs agony...
Yes..... it hurts
GOOD LUCK HON
