I know three couples who have met (and married) as a result of these services, so they do work some times.

Not much. Why would one want to date on-line if not for devious means? Either for cheating on ones spouse, something in the background that they'd rather not let anyone they know in on. Some mental problem they want to hide or, physical.
Why wouldn't one want to attend a church social, we have plenty for meeting new people. A public site or area that caters to singles and is honest. Think about it. Who would you pick up at one of these sites and of what quality.

I got married the old fashioned way. Met a guy I liked in public with friends, dated for awhile and then settled down together.

This online dating makes me nervous for anyone who needs to use it. From what I hear people are always misrepresenting themselves and if predators exist online aren't you putting yourself up as an easy target?

However, if it works for you...I'm not going to judge a person who is successful from it.

I think you should stop this online dating thing and get out in the real world and talk to people you can see, not from a keyboard

i personally think it's not a good idea. it's just too much of a risk, and wayy to many people pretend to be 17 when they're actually 45. it's really freaky if you think about it. but of course, this is just what i think. there are success stories about online dating.
