WHEN you hear the terms “soul” and “spirit,” what comes to your mind? Many believe that these words mean something invisible and immortal that exists inside us. They think that at death this invisible part of a human leaves the body and lives on. Since this belief is so widespread, many are surprised to learn that it is not at all what the Bible teaches. What, then, is the soul, and what is the spirit, according to God’s Word?

“SOUL” AS USED IN THE BIBLE

First, consider the soul. You may remember that the Bible was originally written mainly in Hebrew and Greek. When writing about the soul, the Bible writers used the Hebrew word ne′phesh or the Greek word psy·khe′. These two words occur well over 800 times in the Scriptures, and the New World Translation consistently renders them “soul.” When you examine the way “soul” or “souls” is used in the Bible, it becomes evident that this word basically refers to (1) people, (2) animals, or (3) the life that a person or an animal enjoys. Let us consider some scriptures that present these three different senses.
A further study of God’s Word will show you that nowhere in the entire Bible are the terms “immortal” or “everlasting” linked with the word “soul.” Instead, the Scriptures state that a soul is mortal, meaning that it dies. (Ezekiel 18:4, 20) Therefore, the Bible calls someone who has died simply a “dead soul.”—Leviticus 21:11.

Many people call them by many names. Souls, spirits, spirit guides, ghosts, ghouls, haunts, shades, shadows, trapped memories and even family.

Through personal experience, I have encountered the unseen. Sometimes they can be sensed and other times not. I have not found any one thing that indicates this. It can very from feeling like your being watched to an actual physical jab.

I am a strong believer in Jesus Christ but at one point in my life I was big on everything from witchcraft, druidism, divination, shamanism and etc... I became interested in the pegan ways when I found out that I was experiencing something out of the ordinary. They "seemed" to explain what was happening, which they kind of did. Come to find out the most important things (the truths of the matter) are always left out of the pegan systems. Thank God I woke up from that mess.

I've felt the presense of an evil spirit (demon) when I was staying in a very old house in Greece. No chilly breeze, just a numbing fear that something definately isn't right. I actually saw eyes (on an old urn). The next day I threw the urn out and wasn't bothered again.
The End.

That which pervades the entire body you should know to be indestructible. No one is able to destroy that imperishable soul.(Bhagavad-gita-2.17)
Purport by A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, Founder-Acharya of ISKCON,
(International Society for Krishna Consciousness)
The influence of the atomic soul can be spread all over a particular body. According to the Mundaka Upanisad, this atomic soul is situated in the heart of every living entity, and because the measurement of the atomic soul is beyond the power of appreciation of the material scientists, some of them assert foolishly that there is no soul. The individual atomic soul is definitely there in the heart along with the Supersoul, and thus all the energies of bodily movement are emanating from this part of the body. The corpuscles which carry the oxygen from the lungs gather energy from the soul. When the soul passes away from this position, the activity of the blood, generating fusion, ceases. Medical science accepts the importance of the red corpuscles, but it cannot ascertain that the source of the energy is the soul. Medical science, however, does admit that the heart is the seat of all energies of the body.

Such atomic particles of the spirit whole are compared to the sunshine molecules. In the sunshine there are innumerable radiant molecules. Similarly, the fragmental parts of the Supreme Lord are atomic sparks of the rays of the Supreme Lord, called by the name prabhä, or superior energy. So whether one follows Vedic knowledge or modern science, one cannot deny the existence of the spirit soul in the body, and the science of the soul is explicitly described in the Bhagavad-gita by the Personality of Godhead Himself.

It is said that the soul is invisible, inconceivable and immutable. Knowing this, you should not grieve for the body. (Bhagavad-gita-2.25)
Purport by A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada,
As described previously, the magnitude of the soul is so small for our material calculation that he cannot be seen even by the most powerful microscope; therefore, he is invisible. As far as the soul's existence is concerned, no one can establish his existence experimentally beyond the proof of sruti, or Vedic wisdom. We have to accept this truth, because there is no other source of understanding the existence of the soul, although it is a fact by perception. There are many things we have to accept solely on grounds of superior authority. No one can deny the existence of his father, based upon the authority of his mother. There is no source of understanding the identity of the father except by the authority of the mother. Similarly, there is no source of understanding the soul except by studying the Vedas. In other words, the soul is inconceivable by human experimental knowledge. The soul is consciousness and conscious—that also is the statement of the Vedas, and we have to accept that. Unlike the bodily changes, there is no change in the soul. As eternally unchangeable, the soul remains atomic in comparison to the infinite Supreme Soul. The Supreme Soul is infinite, and the atomic soul is infinitesimal. Therefore, the infinitesimal soul, being unchangeable, can never become equal to the infinite soul, or the Supreme Personality of Godhead. This concept is repeated in the Vedas in different ways just to confirm the stability of the conception of the soul. Repetition of something is necessary in order that we understand the matter thoroughly, without error.

I not only felt a presence, I saw him. It felt like I was falling into a dark hole. I was frightened and prayed for strength and protection. The spirit turned and left. I don't know why this spirit guy was watching me, but it was a bit freaky. I didn't invite him to my home. i don't do any wiji or witchcraft craziness. Oh well.. at least he left.

If you're talking about a spirit, it depends on what kind of spirit it is. The Holy Spirit of God generally feels warm and comforting. As far as my experience goes, evil spirits bring about a feeling of fear.

I've felt it when a soul leaves the body when someone dies, it's hard to explain but it's the same feeling every time, kinda like a energy in the air rising up and then it's gone

I felt my Husbands spirit...right after I came back from the hospital ...he had a long struggle and I felt his relief...

I was doing the dishes...and felt kind of strange...I was alone in the kitchen...I felt him standing behind me...so close I can feel his breath...I looked behind me and nothing was there...blood rushed into my veins...I started praying...then I got quiet again...and listened....I did not turn my head again...I stayed focused on the dishes...it was daylight... I looked outside the kitchen window where I stood and felt the pressure on the back of my neck as he placed his hand on my neck and pressed a bit...I felt like he was trying to comfort me...If he was alive...this action will leed into me turning around and putting my head on his shoulder...I almost freaked out...I turned around and said" Bill, if this is you, please show yourself...if it is not you, please go back where you came from...I am scared"...and that was the end...

I felt cold on the inside but the house temperature did not change...the atmosphere felt a bit more dense than normal, but to be honest with you, I think it was in my head ...

I am still shaking... it happened 11 years ago. I loved and still love that man.

We are a tri-part being.
Spirit - Soul - Body.
