Opus Dei. Well... Catholics aren't the first to come up with cults. (Check out the crazy Baptist ones who protest at soldier's funerals.) And not everyone is involved in those cults, and most people aren't that fanatic.
And we're not whores, thanks. We are the majority because our religion was established first, other denominations came afterwards (compared to other Christians.)
We see Christ as a savior, the person who unlocked heaven's gates and gave mankind hope. How does that connect with "somber" and "sorrowful?"
"...The only Christian church filled with sinful acts." . . . Did you seriously just pull that out of your ***?
I hope you sort out the inner-issues you're probably venting out through these really stupid generalizations and your ignorance.

There are evil people in every area of life. The devil likes to install them in such areas to undermine the Catholic church.
Again, please don't say such things. You evidently haven't read about the Catholic church and Opus Dei(try their own websites). Opus Dei is a personal prelature of the Catholic church-not every Catholic is also a member of Opus Dei. It takes a lot of holiness to make such physical sacrifices, and only when you are so holy and understand Christ's suffering so much would you ever understand.
Catholics take a lot of their inspiration from Jesus's forgiveness and his joy, like you say. What are these graven images you speak of? Is it not correct to have Churches fit for Christ himself to live in? After all if anybody should have a nice house, it is him.
I hope you can get over your bitterness of the Catholic church. Best wishes.

This accusation does not hold water because Jesus Christ promised to guide his Church till the end of the age.
"And so I tell you. Peter; you are a rock, and on this rock foundation I will build my church, and not even death will ever be able to overcome it. I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of heaven; what you prohibit on earth will be prohibited in heaven and what you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven." - Matthew 16,18-20
"And teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And I will be with you always, to the end of the age." - Matthew 28,20
"I have told you this while I am still with you, The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and make you remember all that I have told you". - John 14, 25
"When, however, the Spirit comes who reveals the truth about God, he will LEAD YOU INTO ALL TRUTH." - John 16,13
After making the above promises are you now saying that Jesus cannot be relied upon to keep his word?
Pagan Influence Fallacy
Opponents of the Church often attempt to discredit Catholicism by attempting to show similarities between it and the beliefs or practices of ancient paganism.
Ultimately, all attempts to prove Catholicism "pagan" fail. Catholic doctrines are neither borrowed from the mystery religions nor introduced from pagans after the conversion of Constantine. To make a charge of paganism stick, one must be able to show more than a similarity between something in the Church and something in the non-Christian world. One must be able to demonstrate a legitimate connection between the two, showing clearly that one is a result of the other, and that there is something wrong with the non-Christian item.
In the final analysis, nobody has been able to prove these things regarding a doctrine of the Catholic faith, or even its officially authorized practices. The charge of paganism just doesn’t work.
May the Lord's peace be with you!

Oh, hardly that. Ted Haggard, Jimmy Swaggart, Jim Bakker, David Koresh, and Jim Jones weren't Catholics. And lots of Protestant preachers live in mansions, drive Rolls Royces, and own huge yachts.

May God's peace and love be with you.
I will only ask that you research the beliefs and teachings of the Church if you haven't already done so. I ask this because of the many errors in your question regarding the teachings of the Church. This link is a great place to start: www.catholic.com.
God bless.

From an atheist point of view, what a catholic believes is not nuttier than protestants or muslims or hindus. It's all the same level of nuttiness, just the details change.
Why do you keep wanting to split hairs over doctrine, when the basic concept of belief in a deity at all is so absurd?

Are you an ex Catholic?
Many Catholics believe Jesus is who He says He is... the Son of God. Not all that attend that church believe everything it teaches.
Opus Dei means "Work of God" in translation from Latin to English.

+ Mary and the Saints +
Catholics share the belief in the Communion of Saints with many other Christians, including the Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, Episcopal, and Methodist Churches.
The Communion of Saints is the belief where all saints are intimately related in the Body of Christ, a family. When you die and go to heaven, you do not leave this family.
Everyone in heaven or on their way to heaven are saints, you, me, my deceased grandmother, Mary the mother of Jesus, and Mother Teresa.
As part of this family, you may ask your family and friends living here on earth to pray for you. Or, you may also ask the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Andrew, or your deceased grandmother living in heaven to pray for you.
Prayer to saints in heaven is simple communication, not worship.
And prayer to the saints is optional not required.

+ "Roman" Catholic Church +
The Catholic Church has consistently referred to itself as the “Catholic Church” at least since 107 AD, when the term appears in the writings of St. Ignatius of Antioch
The term "Roman" Catholic is rather recent.
The new Anglican Church in England started using the term “Roman” in the 1500s as one of many ways of demeaning and demonizing Catholics.
Catholics accepted this late coming adjective without too much protest. Today “Catholic” and “Roman Catholic” are interchangeable terms. Both terms are even used in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
To add a little more confusion, some apply the term “Roman Catholic Church” only to the Latin Rite Catholic Church, excluding the Eastern Rite Catholic Churches that are in full communion with the Pope, and are part of the same Church, under the Pope.
The term “Roman” neither increases nor decreases the faith, hope and love of the Catholic Church.

+ Graven Images +
Do you have pictures of your loved ones? Have you ever looked at the picture of someone while talking on the phone to them?
Statues and pictures of people we love are not idols.
Statues and paintings of Jesus and the saints are just like pictures of the people we love and respect.
The King James Version of the Bible states in Exodus 20:4: "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth"
Why were the Jews commanded not to make graven images? Graven images were the standard method of pagan worship. They were representations of false gods.
This is a very clear command.
However God commanded the Jews in Exodus 25:18 and 1 Chronicles 28:18–19, "And thou shalt make two cherubims of gold, of beaten work shalt thou make them"
And in 1 Kings chapter 7 Solomon made bulls and other images out of precious metals.
It seems obvious that the Jews did not worship the cherubims and Solomon did not worship the bulls he had made. These images did not violate the command of God. Therefore, an image not made for worship is acceptable.
In Numbers 21:8-9, "And the LORD said to Moses, "Make a saraph and mount it on a pole, and if anyone who has been bitten looks at it, he will recover." Moses accordingly made a bronze serpent and mounted it on a pole, and whenever anyone who had been bitten by a serpent looked at the bronze serpent, he recovered."
And in John 3:14-15, Jesus says in correlation, "And just as Moses lifted up the [image of a] serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life."
How can a statue of our Lord Jesus Christ dead on the cross be considered an idol to a false god? A crucifix is the message of the Gospel without words held up for all to see, a visual reminder of the sacrifice of Jesus, no different from a painting, a play, or a movie.
Catholics do not worship statues but the almighty God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
+ With love in Christ.
