Religions arent trying to be evil, but the ramifications are. Most religions are very divisive, they are homophobic, racist and misogynistic. They all argue with each other and assume they are the best. They misinterpret the bible, believing all the statements that are literal are symbolic, and believing all the symbolic meanings are literal.
Its a disgrace and child abuse to shove religion down any kids throat. By the time they grow up, they are so brainwashed and programmed to believe as they do, they never open their minds to new ideas and never do their own independent research.
Teaching children common sense, not a belief in a "devil" is doing a child a service. Teaching kids that sex is natural but one must be responsible with sex is mature and educated.
Religions are fear based and therefore useless for a thinking, open, searching mind.
Religion is not spirituality. Although it believes itself to be. True spirituality knows itself. Religion is a system of "tenets" which are rules, that almost none of its followers ever follow. Most religionists judge others and then commit "sin".. and then say they are not perfect so its "ok" and they are forgiven.
Its better to teach people to stop "sinning" and learn the first time, instead of constantly effing up and then saying "I am not perfect, because the bible tells me so".
Besides perfection is not the aim nor the goal in spirituality.
What is best is to educate and reseach yourself, not adopt and believe what other people tell you, which is the height of ignorance.

Lets see , the main concept of a religion is to follow a set of beliefs. So it completely depends on the religion rather than just asking about all religions. Some are , some aren't.

I don't. I think it has been turned into a bad thing by many, but the idea of religion was a good one when it started. Get people together. Worship a higher being. Get along, be content. Learn about and expand faith.
Now it's, "Do what we say or else!" It makes me sad.

I don't.
Religion isn't evil : the inability for people to accept other religions' existence is evil.

As a Christian I think a lot of religion can be classified as evil. But I thank God for religious freedom.

What tool has been used to justify more deaths and killings than religion? Better off without irrational beliefs that keep the poor and uneducated down but hopeful.

Me. It is not religion per se that is evil, however, but faith: it is the deliberate abjuring of the one thing that distinguishes humans from animals: the ability to think -- as in, apply logic to evidence.
