Hi,

I have started taking Prozac , for depression and OCD. It is nearing the fourth week. I don`t really have any side-effects, however I feel a lot worse, and the OCD is much worse. I lay in bed for like an hour before I can get out. I have taken Zoloft before, which worked, but the weight gain was bad. I really want it to work, as I have lost 11 months of my life to this illness.
So basically, my symptoms have worsened, and I feel very shaky. Now, I know that SSRIs tend to first make you feel worse at onset and then things get better.(I had that with Zoloft)
Anyone have a similar experience, and how long does it take?
I am on 40mg and nearly 4 weeks into treatment. I know SSRIs are, so I don`t need an answer how they work or what they do, I just need experiences, and whether people have also felt like this and then things got better?

Please help!!

Medications affect us differently. I have been taking prozac for fifteen years, I take 20mg in the am and 20mg in the pm. Even over this long period of time it works for me. But everyone is different. I am sorry you are having such a hard time finding the right med. I struggled for about a year before I got level on prozac. There are other antidepressents that work well. One you might ask about is Celexa, it doesn't have that many side affects and it kind of makes you energetic. Then there's Anafrinil for OCD. I have clients that take that and are successful. You need to be careful though, some OCD medications can make you manic if you are taking too much. As for the dose you are taking of prozac, maybe its too high or not high enough. Talk to your doctor.

Been there done that. The problem may not be in the prescription but the dosage itself. You need to go back to the doctor and talk with him about the effects this prescription has had on you. There may be a possibility that the dosage is to high or too low either one would do the same thing pretty much.

I took several anti-depressants. At first they put me on WAY high levels of several different meds. I completely flipped out. I quit taking them for several years until my depression worsend. Now I take cymbalta at a low dose and I'm doing great. But definatly talk to your doctor and keep trying.

Only two things to remember though, happiness doesn't only come from a pill. It's something you'll have to work on, not be prescription reliant on. It's a half and half battle. Good luck, with work I'm sure you'll pull through and feel great.

"Feel terrible! Please Help!"

You need to call your doctor as soon as possible.

He or she needs to know that you are in a downward spiral right now. The doctor is the one to change the dose or change the medication. Either of those options sounds like something you need soon.

Good luck! Hang in there!

Make the call.......... you can do something about your symptoms......!

All I know is that whenever I've taken Prozack, it's made me feel out of body. Like I wasn't real. I couldn't feel my body. I wanted to hurt myself just to see if I was alive. I had to listen to heavy metal music just to feel something. But I couldn't.

These are questions you should be asking your physician.

Other people can tell you about their experiences, but every body's body is different. No two people will react exactly the same, so it's irrelevant.

OCD is BS. Anything psychs say to get you "diagnosed" is BS. Don't believe me? Watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b30iwhEw9ho&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fprofile%2Emyspace%2Ecom%2Findex%2Ecfm%3Ffuseaction%3Duser%2Eviewprofile%26friendid%3D55073312

Start by reading this site while it's early and then take your own conclusions. Do not stop taking prozac immediately, please!
