If a digital camera is making a clicking or a churning noise what could it be .?

it is the automatic focus
go to menu
turn the focus to single and not continuous

You could have some grit in the zoom mechanism. Been shooting outdoors recently? By the way, a Pentax is generally much noisier than other brands.

The zoom is probably doing something weird.
