That's because they're born from Latin and share many words and have the same rules of Grammar!

However, Spanish is closer to Latin than French is.

Cheers!

Why are you are so sure they're very similar ?? Besides of my mother tongue ( Italian ) I'm also speaking French and Spanish but it has NEVER happened I've mixed up Italian with French while I must be really careful to get this doesn't happen when I speak Spanish.
All the 3 languages have Latin roots (as well as Portuguese and Romanian) and they've differently evolved from the original language. If we give credit to a study published in Italy these are the percentages of evolution from Latin of the romance languages:
Italian 12%
Spanish 20%
Romanian 23,5%
Portuguese: 31%
French 44%

As a consequence French has evolved from Latin more than 3 times of Italian and more than the double of Spanish and therefore it cannot be considered very similar.

France and Spain are neighbouring countries in Europe, so it's natural that their languages would overlap, plus both languages have latin origins.

I don't think so, though both of them are Roman languages and have many common traces. We could tackle this issue only regarding their comparison..

Have a nice day!
