At the time of Jesus' crucifiction, this was common place.......urine as a sani mouthwash. Are we to believe stories from this time period are at all accurate. Immaculate Conception, my butt. More like, Immaculate Contraption.

I'm not sure what the connection is that you're trying to make ... that is, however, true.

Some ancient people did use Urine as a mouthwash. It depended on what level of society you were, however. While some people defended the use, and did it regularly, others found it disgusting, and actually prefered people having nasty teeth, to the pearly whites of urine garglers.

Urine is sterile until it passes outside the body and has a high ammonia content-so it probably was used as a mouthwash. The New Testament was concocted during this time so particular practices and customs of society at that time are probably true and accurate-but as the Tall Tales of Paul Bunyan were concocted at the turn of the 1800's-with similar strange -but yet accepted-practices at that time in the U.S.-it is all the same.

They were just following Proverb 5:15: "Drink waters out of thine own cistern."

Seriously, though, urine contains ammonia molecules, which are still used to whiten teeth. Urine was used in ancient toothpastes and mouth-washing liquids from Roman times on, and apparently it worked pretty well. Some homeopaths still hold that drinking urine supplies the body with enzymes, hormones, salts, vitamins, natural steroids, and trace minerals that have been depleted because of disease.

As a mouthwash? I would need to
know what the source is for that (smirk).
But I know that they did use stale urine for washing clothes. Especially wool. It was for the ammonia in it.
