Malaysia is supposed to use British standard of English but actually English spoken in Malaysia is simplified and broken and you'll see plenty of very obvious grammatic mistakes even in official texts.

Malaysian English is broken.

Sometimes it's difficult for non-Malaysians especially native speakers to understand Malaysian English.
Most of lecturers at public universities cannot speak proper English and have difficulties in English communication, although they're supposed to conduct classes in English.

Malaysians who speak proper English will be mocked by their less verse counterparts. Words 'thank you' and 'please' are rarely used. End consonants are normally omitted.

Examples of Malaysian English (pronounciation):

you understand or not? = do you understand?
I take bus. Can or not? = can I take bus?
yesterday I go town = I went to town yesterday
see first = polite way of saying 'no'
I speaking English = I can speak English
come here lah = come here
sadow = shadow
very high one = very high
lef = left
kha = car
shot = short/shot
leck = leg
pose = post

British spelling, American spelling and Malaysian misspelling are all acceptable.
