PS7 will let you type text into an image using the "T" (horizontal text) tool. Here's a manual process that I use.

First create a Name and Date file image:

Use File New to open a new canvas with transparent background. Use the same pixel density as the JPEG images. (300 ppi or whatever)

Launch the T tool and choose the font, size, color, etc. for the text. Click a spot on the new canvas, and type in your Name and Date.

Either Save this file, or select out the Name/date portion to make another new smaller file and save that.

Now you are ready!

Select the Name Date file and do Edit Copy.

Open one of your pics. Do Edit Paste. Your Name Date image is now in the middle of the pic.

Launch the Move tool. Click and Hold on the Name Date image in the middle of the pic and move it where you want it.

Click Layer/Flatten. Save the pic image with your Name Date on it.

Get the next pic.

This may not be as quick as batching them, but the setup is much shorter.

Good Luck

You can set up an "actions" script in PS7, consult the help menu on exactly how, but it should help you out.
