In my state, it is illegal to drive with any living thing on your lap. If you drive with a dog on your lap, get in a wreck, and the airbag or yourself squashes and kills the dog, you go to prison for 15 years. If you drive with a person on your lap, get in a wreck, and the airbag or yourself squashes and kills the person, you are tried for manslaughter, but rarley put in jail. If you are put in jail, it's usually for three years. Isn't that horrible? You kill a human and get jail time for three years, but if you kill a pet, you go to prison for 15 years. How/why are pets more important than people these days?

I'm 100% positive. I know a driver ed teacher and a police officer and they both said it was true.

Nope. This is a Utah law, a far-right state. I heard somewhere about that law and asked my driver ed and police officer friends and they said that it was in fact a law.

About the same as going to jail for kicking a dog, but you can half kill your kid and you get counseling and keep your kid.
charge with animal abuse, animal shelters don't let you get another.
charged with child abuse, you can have another one and keep it until or if you get caught abusing that one too.
Child abuse laws need to be enforced to a higher extent. I am still trying to help a baby that had a gun to his head by the mother threatening to blow his head off, along with starving baby; 10 lbs at three months (healthy when born, no medical issues) physical and emotional abuse with video evidence and the baby is still there.
five doctors report abuse to SSD, CPS, and state, and national child protective in TX has also been called. Nothing has been done yet. Two unnecessary surgeries have taken place because of abuse. Laws protect the parents not the children. Direct statement from case worker "she's the mother, she has a right to be with her baby."

Uhhh that is just weird are you sure you have your facts right. Also, be aware that there are many older laws in the books that are not actually enforced and are ridiculous. This doesn't sound like it could be too old of a law, so again I wonder if you have this right. If it is right, the punishment for the human life should not be lower than that for the animal.

I think people who drive with ANY living things on their laps should all get long jail time, merely to keep that kind of stupidity off the streets...

I agree. It seems that more emphasis is put on pets than people. If someone harms a pet, then watch out. I wish the same went for us.

What state is this? It sounds like one of those over-the wall, far-left states like California, Oregon or one of the New England states. Right?

That's quite possibly the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
