Saved from what? This is driving me nuts. I don't get it.

Stamping - I'm sorry but your answer just isn't doing it for me. You're basically saying "Because God said so." That answer only works for small children. I'm a thinking adult. Not mentally inept. I think I'm pretty darn deep. And the analogy to why do fish have fins, I'm sorry, it's not the same thing.

Ria - so it's basically a "being saved from death" thing?

We can save ourselves from "sins" guys. If you think a certain thing is a sin - just don't do it. It's not that difficult to have some self control. You just have to be mindful of your actions and take some self-responsibility.

Poohcat - actually I really like your answer. It actually makes sense. I'd buy this as a good reason.

Upsman - so this would mean that if I have a relationship with the creator - even if I call him by a name other than God, then technically I'm saved? It would also mean that all other non-Christian Theists are saved. Especially if we're talking about God as the life source of the universe - which is actually a very Hermetic idea, which many religions are based on.

The term being saved can mean several things and every "saved" person probably has a slightly different opinion of what it means. However, you asked why people feel they need to be saved...

Most people have the desire to know that their is some reason for their existance. Science refers to this as the "God gene" Because we are created beings, we (if Satan leaves us alone) have the natural affinity for our creator. Even people who have never heard of Jesus seek that higher power. Being saved is simply finding that connection with our creator.

Based on a particular faith (denomination or religion), that connection is something to be cherished and brought to others if at all possible. As religions generally have a "not saved" consequence, being saved is the desired state.

I know this isnt a very good answer but it is the best that I can do. I hope it helps.

First you have to answer the question of what is the purpose of life. I think life would be absurd without a God. Without God, people would live, die and anything in between, who cares.

Once you find that the earth is finely tune for human life than you can assume that man has a purpose.

If there is a God then what is the purpose life?
God created man to love Him.

And before you say that is stupid, it isn't any different
then people wanting to have children.

We are His children.
When His children spend their lives having faith in
Jesus Christ we show our love for Him and will be saved.
Those that don't will be seperated from Him, which
is hell/punishment.

Then you may say doesn't He want all of His children to be saved. Yes, He does. True love is when people make a choice to love Him.

John 3:16:
"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life."

I highly recommend the book, "Reinventing Jesus."
Lee Strobel also has some very good books.

I've asked this myself here before, and all I get is "saved from eternal damnation for not repenting my sins", and " saved from the end times" which makes NO sense, because to be saved and sit with god at the end of days, you'd have to be dead. Right? God is supposed to come down and take all the good christian souls to heaven after the Rapture, or some such nonsense? They have to try to save everyone - it's in their contract. They don't even really know why - just that Jeebus said so.

Saved from your sin. There is an absolute moral standard up there which emanates from the nature of God. When you break it, that is called sin. Sin is what separates a Holy, Righteous God from man. Man is separated from God by sin. Somehow ones sins must be covered, in other words, removed from Gods legal record. God made that possible by sending His Son to pay for those sins on the cross so that those who accept that payment can have a clean record(in a legal sense). If one's sins are not removed, one will remain separated from God forever. What are you saved from? You are saved from being separated from the life source of the universe. You are saved from spending eternity in darkness.

Saved from hell
We believe in Paradise and Hell. Paradise is the abode of enjoyment which God, the Exalted, prepared for the righteous. The blessing they enjoy there, no eye has ever seen, no ear has ever heard of, and no human being has ever imagined: "No soul knows what comfort is kept hidden for them, as a reward for that which they used to do." (32:17) Hell is the abode of punishment which God has prepared for the unbelievers and the evildoers. The torture and horror in it cannot be imagined

Then don't concern yourself over it as it will drive to insane.
God has given us all an opportunity to accept His Son Jesus Christ as Saviour. We being so special to God, He has given us the free will choice. We cannot say that we did not know. God and His Word have been a real part of everyone lives all along.

You make the choice. Make the right one and be saved and will inherit everything along with Our Lord Jesus Christ. Make no decision and you know what is to happen.><>

before adam and eve disobeyed God, everything was perfect, there was no death, no ignorance, etc.. but they had freewill and so they disobeyed God. this resulted to death.. and so people now are facing eternal damnation.. that is why Jesus died for us and resurrected so that the gates of heaven may be open for us.. that we may have a chance in heaven..

we need to be saved from hell by following God's word..

;D

God bless!!
