I've been in a relationship for a little over a year now, and we couldn't be happier. it's like something out of a fairy tale.

but what I have is frowned upon by freinds and family, because she's 5 years older than me.

but I really love her. and I hate keeping what I have with her on the down-low, because it makes me look like a bad boyfreind. so I'm stuck.

should I respect my family's wishes? or should I stay with the one I truly love?

As long as you get along well, I don't see why you should break it off. I've always gotten along with older people and my 'attachments' [for lack of a better term] are usually with them as well, though since I'm female people tend to take it in stride more easily.

As they say, age is just a number. Maturity is more important. If you're particularly mature for your age, or she's particularly immature for hers, or both, it could be just fine. The main issue in this situation are things she can do legally [for instance going out to drink] that you can't do with her; most of my friends who have been in relationships with age differences that didn't work out were mainly because of that. The next most common was the difference in life experience. Around both your ages people change a lot quite quickly, and after awhile that can catch up to you guys.

When you're in a relationship, you should do it for you and your partner and not for other people. If she's good for you and you're good for her, that should be enough even if you aren't the same age.

its definately a tough spot to be in. as an 18 year old girl, i would be ok with having a relationship with someone five years older than me as long as there is a real connection. you say that you have that. so, i think you family should understand that they cant really do anything about you being in love with an older woman. they have to accept it and learn to accept her. if you guys havent been together for long you may want to stick it out a bit longer, so that you can back up your romance with the time you have been together, just to show that it is working out. meanwhile, dont conceal your love. dont let other people bring you down, if they dont like it, they are going to have to live with it. its not like they're going to disown you because you dont do what they want! its your happiness not theirs, thats on the line! but do wait until further in the future (if you have been 2gether for a little while) to comfront you fam and friends, and tell them that you are definately sticking with her no matter what. i wish you luck!

there is not any undertaking approximately going to detention center while you're in charge with this very youthful woman. while you're actual proceeding to attend until she is over the age of sixteen, then why no longer talk over together with her mothers and fathers? they'll could desire to renowned what your plans are, you won't be able to save a secret like that for 2 or 3 years, the only time you would be committing a criminal offense is that in case you or she make any sexual strikes jointly as she is decrease than age. keeping palms, cuddles or perhaps kissing is proper until that element. however the mothers and fathers could desire to renowned and settle for you. that's existence i'm afraid.

There's nothing wrong with it. It's a little bit weird, but not that weird. Stay with it as long as it makes you happy. Don't worry what your family thinks.
