Don't eat after 7pm. Trying to digest food later at night will keep you awake. Also step away from the computer and turn off the tv 30 minutes before the time you want to go to bed. These keep your mind stimulated, making you not want to sleep. Just lay in your bed and do deep breathing and relaxation exercises. Read a book, do something that is physically and mentally restful, so you can fall asleep more quickly. When you have other things on your mind, such as tv or things on the computer, it is more difficult to sleep since your mind is still working. I hope this helps!

An hour before I need to go to bed, I try and finish what I need to (check email, do dishes, laundry, prepare for tomorrow, whatever) in 30 minutes or so. Then I start getting ready for bed (pjs, tea/hot cocoa, brush teeth, wash face) then I watch tv or read until its time to go to bed. I don't really have a problem going to bed...I actually look forward to it . I make sure to keep things like my computer or work/school things out of my bedroom, so I can completely relax. Also, I keep a notepad and pen next to my bed, so if I get into bed and I remember something that I didn't do, I write it down to do in the morning. Good Luck!

just wanted to let you know of a miracle pill that puts you to sleep, available over the counter, is actually very very beneficial for your health, and is only 3 bucks!! I had trouble falling asleep for years. I would lay in bed, and think and think and think for hours before I could fall asleep. It was literally driving me crazy!! I had tried every over the counter sleeping pill on the market and nothing helped. I turned to Nyquil and that did the trick. I had been drinking Nyquil almost every night to go to sleep until I stumbled upon this miracle sanity saving nutritional supplement named MELATONIN. And you can buy it at any GNC health food store. I advocate GNC because the melatonin they use goes through 85 different quality checks before its bottled. Buy the sublingual melatonin. The kind that dissolves underneath your tongue tastes like cherries and it’s good for you!! I was shocked at the effectiveness in putting me to sleep. If you have any questions before you buy it the sales associate at GNC should be able to answer any questions you have. It comes in 1 mg, I take 2 right before bed. The only side effects are weird dreams for the first two nights if any at all. You must take the sublingual kind from GNC otherwise it might not work because of quality and potency, should be taken at regular bedtimes in the evening.
God Bless
P.S. after you try it and it works don’t forget to tell others about it. You could be saving someone else’s Sanity

If you try certain medications, they might help for the time being, but you can't take those forever, and sooner or later you'll just develop a tolerance to them anyway. So I won't suggest any of those. Try reverse psychology. You already hinted in your question that that technique would work on you. You said that when you should be crashing, you end up staying awake and doing things, until you eventually fall asleep. When you are in the mind set of going to bed, you awaken, with energy no doubt. And in turn, when you try to stay awake, you loose your energy long enough to pass out. So, that would be my only advise. Go to bed at your desired time, but keep your mind thinking "must stay awake". Repeat that to yourself, and sure enough you should be asleep in no time. Good luck.

This is what worked for me:
1- Drink some decaffinated tea
2- try wearing socks and gloves
3- listen to music
4- starting about 2 hours before you want to go to sleep, start turning off the lights, your brain will get the message that it's time to wind down
5- Start following a bedtime routine

Think not of disorders never, please. Try develop the habit of reading before sleep. If you find it helpful, fill a big bottle with hot water and sleep with it betweeen your legs, I tell it, it helps. Other people get used to follow radio programs in bed, by the time of sleep, (they can be quite boring) and they end up falling asleep at the middle of the story. So it does work. For the possibility of sleeping disorders, please wish not to start a psychiatry treatment, try other ways. Meanwhile, I have this interesting site to share with you:

Suffer from it almost every night. What helps me is...flipping the channels on the tv. Or reading. Even if it's not something I'm interested in, it'll put me to sleep.

I had this problem and was prescribed Ambien, which worked great. Also, drinking something warm always makes me sleepy, so try that.

Don't hang out in your bedroom. If you only use your bedroom for sleep, your body will adjust to that concept.
