Yes, weightlifting is like any other activity that burns calories. Anything that burns calories helps you lose (not loose) weight.
Actually, some studies have shown that the fat-burning effect after weightlifting lasts longer than cardio.

exercise and metabolism are complex. lifting weights can make you lose or gain weight depending on how much fat/muscle you have to begin with and how you diet. You see, weight lifting can and will make you lose fat but it can also make you gain muscle mass. So the net outcome can be either weight gain or loss. The most efficient way to lose weight is cardiovascular exercise, such as jogging, bike. Specialists recommend exercising regularly in short but very, very intense sessions.

Yes it is, in the short term. But, you are also doing cardio (running), and that WILL burn fat and make you lose weight.
Don't let that stop you from strength training, however. Having more muscle mass makes your body more efficient at metabolizing. (read: You burn more calories, even when you are doing nothing). In the long term, this more efficient body of yours will also help take off more unwanted weight (fat) even if it adds a little better weight (muscle).
I wish you luck!

Weightbuilding builds up muscle which raises your metabolism which make you burn more calories which burnes more fat. Weight lifting may not help you lose wight but it will help you to lose fat and gain muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat by the way, for the same volume.

Sure will. Every time you set the weights down, you lose weight. How much depends on how much you lifted.
