The pain is not all the time but it has been a constant and I'm a little concerned.

If it's above the heel, could be tendinitis. On the heel itself, could be a spur or plantar fasciitis. Or it could be high uric acid. So many other possibilities for heel pain so I suggest you see an orthopedic doctor.

It's the Achilles tendon, not heel. (That's a metaphorical term). Possibly from strain, possibly from inflammation. I'm only speculating but these can cause this on and off (intermittant) pain. And yes, unless you wish to continue in pain, see a doctor.
