In my opinion, all three cars are great. There are a few differences.

GT
4.6L 3-valve engine
300 hp
Available with a 5-speed Tremec or Auto Transmission
It’s a great car that runs smooth, is easy to drive and as of 2007, comes with a 5-year/60,000 mile warranty.

Shelby GT500 (Cobra)
5.4L 4-valve engine
500 hp
Tremec 6-speed manual only
Suspension - on GT500 coupe front spring rates are 42 percent stiffer and rear 17 percent stiffer than regular GT's. Front anti-roll bar about seven percent stiffer, but rear bar is twice as stiff. Revalved shocks give similar rate increases to springs at low shaft speeds, but at high shaft speeds (i.e., over sharp bumps) are closer to regular GT's. Front ride height has been lowered 10mm; rear ride height is same as GT's.
Brakes – Front gets Brembo 4—piston, 14”
Body – gets some revisions for look and improve aerodynamics.

Saleen
4.6L 3-valve engine
325 hp (Saleen S281 3-Valve)
465 hp (Saleen S281 Supercharged)
550 hp (Saleen S281 E)
The Saleen is similar to the GT500 but offers several options and levels of performance that increase as you move up the model range. The body kit is very much Saleen in looks. The fit and finish of the car is good, but not quite up to the quality of the factory Mustangs (I own a Saleen).

You should also look at the Roush cars. In my opinion, not as pretty as the Saleen, but I would say the overall fit, assembly and performance is better than the Saleen. For my mondey, I would get the GT500 IF you can find one for sticker price.

Good luck!

GT is the slowest, and the cheapest of the three. The Cobra is the hottest you can buy from a regular Ford dealership. The Saleen is a specially modified Ford which is available only through select dealers. The Saleen is not the most practical vehicle, but is the quickest of the three. (However, remember that F-O-R-D stands for Fix Or Repair Daily!) If you've got to ask, you probably can't afford one anyway. Stick with the GT as it's probably more than you can handle anyway.

i think all of the new mustangs are ugly but mostly it goes by performance and price...saleens are like almost ten grand more than the mustang. but all together mustangs are good cars. i have a 2002 mustang with over 80000 miles on it and havent had any problems with it yet.

I rather the shelbys personally but that's out of most people's price range...

the saleen is the fastest after that but only certain dealers can work on them and depending upon your hot rodding of it can cause issues

Go for the Shelby GT500. Then join SAAC and go to one of their annual meetings. You can make a donation to Carroll Shelby's heart fund and he will sign the glove box, or dash, or sun visor for you, which will increase the value of the car. He's not going to be around forever, so do it while you can.
